Lukewarm response to Jharkhand bandh

E-Mail this report to a friend

The 12-hour Jharkhand bandh call given by the Vam Janwadi Jharkhand Alag Rajya Sangharsh Samiti and the Jharkhand Vikas Party has so far met with a lukewarm response in Ranchi.

The bandh had been called to press the Centre to convene a special session of Parliament for passage of the Bihar state re-organisation bill.

According to political observers here, the town did not respond to the bandh as it coincided with the centenary celebration of tribal demigod Birsa Munda's martyrdom. Secondly, the confusion till late last night whether over the bandh would be on following the cancellation of the prime minister's visit to south Bihar, kept people from participating.

While the VJJARSS and JVP decided to go ahead with the bandh, the All Jharkhand Students Union and the Jharkhand Peoples Party announced their decision not to participate.
