Sena corporator held for murder

E-Mail this report to a friend

A Shiv Sena corporator and an accomplice were remanded to eight days' police custody on Sunday in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old youth at Nehru Nagar in Chembur in north-east Bombay.

Police said the corporator, Surekha Patil, along with nine others had allegedly hatched a conspiracy to murder Madhukar Patil, as they disapproved of his love affair with a girl.

The accused allegedly summoned Patil from his house, locked him in a room and assaulted him. They also forced him to give an undertaking that he would not complain to the police. They later threw him near a railway track, police added.

While Patil and another accused were arrested yesterday, police have launched a manhunt for eight others, some of whom were the girl's relatives, police said.
