Jethmalani postpones foreign trip

E-Mail this report to a friend

Sacked law minister Ram Jethmalani, who made an attempt to speak in the Rajya Sabha Monday on his ouster from the Cabinet, has postponed his foreign visit in the hope of getting an opportunity Tuesday.

The former minister, who was to go abroad early Tuesday, has postponed his visit and has given an undertaking to Rajya Sabha chairman Krishan Kant that his statement in the House would not contain any reference to the high constitutional dignitaries by name, sources close to Jethmalani told PTI.

This was why he was hopeful of getting a chance to speak in the Rajya Sabha and as he did not get it, he would wait till Tuesday, the sources added.

Jethmalani today made two bids in the Rajya Sabha to make a personal explanation, which he described as a "simple, innocuous four-page statement" on his resignation from the Cabinet.

Jethmalani, who was earlier in the afternoon told by vice chairman Suresh Pachouri that his request was being examined by the chairman, rose to repeat his request at the end of a calling attention discussion on the death of tigers at the Nandankanan zoo in Orissa.
