Jethmalani threatens to go public: PTI

Former Union law minister Ram Jethmalani today threatened to make public the circumstances leading to his exit from Cabinet if he was not allowed to make a statement in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow.

Asked why he did not make the statement today, Jethmalani said, "They (the government) raised some technical objections to the statement I had placed before the secretariat and I have answered them. My request for making the statement will stand withdrawn if I am not given the chance tomorrow in the house."

He said, "I have requested the secretariat to treat my request with utmost urgency and if they do not give me a chance to make the statement tomorrow, I will go to the media and public about it."

Asked how lengthy was the statement, Jethmalani said it was "longish" but did not elaborate.

However, Rajya Sabha sources said that it was an 18-page statement with around 100 annexures.

Jethmalani was asked to resign by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee last Saturday in the wake of his defiant reaction to the criticism by the Chief Justice of India during the hearing of a petition in the Supreme Court seeking implementation of Srikrishna Commission report.
