Mizo missionary assaulted by militants

Suspected armed militants belonging to the Bru National Liberation Front assaulted and robbed a Christian Mizo missionary working in Chakma village of Hnahva in Mamit district, police reports said.

Vanlalhlira Hnamte was beaten up in front of his residence on Saturday night by the ultras, who demanded Rs10,000, the sources said.

They took away Rs 505, a knife and belt from the missionary after he was beaten up and lost consciousness, police said.

Working for the Presbyterian church of Mizoram, Hnamte was brought to Aizawl by church leaders.

The militants also snatched Rs 700 and Rs 500 from Santi Ronzon Chakma and Bejoy Bikhas Chakma, police said.

The 30 militants escaped under the cover of darkness, they added.
