Court asks Ayodhya case accused to appear on Sept 15

A special court in Lucknow, hearing cases relating to demolition of disputed structure in Ayodhya, today asked 47 accused, including Union ministers L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray,to appear in person on September 15 for framing of charges against them.

The special judge (Central Bureau of Investigation) S K Shukla gave the order while rejecting the applications for exemption from personal appearance in the court of 47 of the 49 accused.

Among the other accused asked to appear is former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh.

Shukla, who recently replaced J P Srivastava as the special judge, rejected the exemption applications of 47 accused on the ground that there was no stay order from the high court.

One of the accused Satish Nagar appeared in person today while another accused Laxmi Narain Mahatyagi had obtained a stay order from the high court.
