E-Mail this report to a friend

Extremists killed at least 10 persons in Karbi-Anglong while three United Liberation Front of Asom terrorists and a policeman were killed in an encounter in Assam since Saturday night.

Official sources in Guwahati said on Sunday that suspected insurgents of the United Peoples Democratic Solidarity killed 10 non-Karbi people, mostly labourers from Bihar, at Jengri Kheroni village in the Karbi-Anglong Hill District in Upper Assam on Saturday night.

The extremists also torched several houses in the village.

Senior police officers with additional forces have reached the spot and launched a search for the killers.

Meanwhile, three hardcore ULFA terrorists and a police constable were killed and two civilians, including a woman, injured in an encounter between police and the extremists at Balapara village in Barpeta district of Lower Assam early on Sunday.

In another incident, North Cachar Hill District Superintendent of Police B B Chetri and his escort party escaped unhurt when suspected Dima Halong Daogah extremists ambushed his vehicle near Mybong on Saturday.
