Congress workers too can take to the streets, warns Adik

E-Mail this report to a friend

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Adik said on Monday that Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray's threat of violent protests in case of his arrest was "irresponsible" and asserted that Congressmen too were ready to take to the streets if need be.

Reacting to the fallout of the Democratic Front government's decision to go ahead and prosecute the Sena leader for spreading communal enmity, Adik said Thackeray was not above the law of the land.

If the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre were to invoke Article 356 and dismiss the Maharashtra government, it would amount to a mockery of the Constitution, he said. "It will be a test of the BJP-led government," he added.
