Foolish act, says Thackeray's nephew

E-Mail this report to a friend

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, whose arrest appears imminent following the sanctioning of his prosecution by the Maharashtra government for his alleged role during the 1992-93 communal riots, was 'calm and quiet', Sena youth leader Raj Thackeray said in Bombay.

''Balasaheb is calm and quiet,'' a perturbed Raj, who is also the Sena chief's newphew, told PTI after Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal announced the sanctioning of prosecution earlier in the day.

''This is a foolish act (of the Democratic Front government)... they (DF) are digging their own grave,'' Raj said.

He said there was a 'spontaneous bandh' in many parts of Maharashtra, while shops in several localities in the metropolis had closed down.

''The government should have considered the fallout of its action and now let it face the consequences,'' he said.

Meanwhile, Sena leaders said they would consult legal experts to decide their future course of action.
