Chemically treated bajra kills 50 peacocks in MP

E-Mail this report to a friend

A total of 50 peacocks have died in the past few days in Maharajpura, about 4 km from Morena in Madhya Pradesh, after consuming chemically treated bajra.

District Collector Pramod Agarwal said post-mortem reports showed the deaths were caused by consumption of bajra, which had been sprayed with pesticides.

Morena derives its name from a large of number of peacocks that inhabit the district.

District Veterinary Officer A P Gupta said the chemically-treated bajra affected the breathing and digestive systems of the birds.
