Six soldiers killed in Manipur ambush

At least six Assam Rifles jawans were killed and eight others injured in an ambush by militants at Lamlai in Imphal east in the northeastern state of Manipur yesterday evening.

Police said a convoy of security forces was ambushed enroute to Imphal from Ukhrul district on the Ukhrul-Imphal road.

The ambush comes in the wake of the ongoing northeast tour of the Chief of Army Staff General V P Malik.

Police said a combing operation has been launched in the area.
