India protests Pakistan's LoC violation

E-Mail this report to a friend

New Delhi Tuesday strongly protested the violation of the Line of Control west of Naushera by Pakistani forces on February 27, in which seven Indian soldiers were killed. One soldier is still missing.

Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner was summoned by the external affairs ministry and asked to convey to the authorities in Islamabad the need to desist from such violations and to respect at all times the LoC established under the Simla Agreement.

An official press release said India had noted that in the wake of the military reverses suffered by Pakistan following its armed intrusion in Kargil last year, Pakistani forces had intensified their violations of the LoC, including unprovoked firing and promotion of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

''We have also noted the increasingly strident statements made by Pakistani leaders, which provide active encouragement and support to terrorist organisations operating from Pakistani territory,'' it added.

The release said Pakistan's activities and statements were clearly intended with the purpose of attracting international attention. India remained firm in its resolve to combat all violations of the LoC, including cross-border terrorism.
