Pakistan shells Uri, Karnah

E-Mail this report to a friend

Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked artillery and mortar shelling from across the border in the Uri and Karnah sectors of Jammu and Kashmir Monday evening.

Official sources said that Pakistani troops fired shells at civilian areas and security force installations. Indian troops retaliated and hit some Pakistan army positions, they claimed.

Sources said at least three shells landed in Uri town, just a few hundred metres away from the tehsil office, causing panic among the residents. However, no casualty was reported, nor any property damaged.

Some of the shells exploded in the air or in open fields in Namla, Chakri, Gawalta and Asban of Uri.

The Pakistani guns fell silent at 2300 hours Monday night, sources said.

Some seven people have been killed in shelling from across in these sectors this month.
