Qureshi handed over to Kashmir police

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Judicial Magistrate Kamini Lou gave 'transit remand' of former hijacker and Kashmiri separatist leader Hashim Qureshi to the Jammu & Kashmir police on Saturday on a request by Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Ramesh Jalla.

The Jammu & Kashmir police will have to produce Qureshi, who returned to India on Friday and turned himself in to the Delhi police, before the chief judicial magistrate of Srinagar before 1600 IST on Monday.

SP Jalla moved the application for Qureshi's transit remand on the plea that he was wanted in connection with some cases registered against him in Srinagar 29 years ago.

The Jammu & Kashmir police have taken custody of Qureshi, one of the founders of the Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front, and removed him from Delhi's Tihar Jail. He is likely to be flown to Srinagar early on Sunday.
