IA hijacker returns to India after 30 years

After nearly 30 years in exile, Hashim Qureshi, who hijacked an Indian Airlines plane to Pakistan in 1971, made a dramatic return to India and surrendered on his arrival from Copenhagen at Delhi airport on Friday morning.

One of the founders of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Srinagar-born Qureshi hit international headlines when he hijacked the IA Fokker Friendship on a flight from Srinagar to Jammu which was later blown up at Lahore airport. He was in prison in Pakistan for nine years and three months before he moved out the country. He was settled in Amsterdam for the last 14 years.
