Manipur governor meets Advani

Manipur Governor Ved Marwah on Thursday met Home Minister L K Advani in New Delhi amid speculation about imposition of President's rule in the state, which has been witnessing political crisis coupled with heightened militancy.

Official sources said Marwah briefed Advani about the latest political and the law and order situation in the state plagued by a political crisis caused by a stand-off between Chief Minister W Nipamacha Singh and Speaker S Dhananjoy Singh.

The meeting lasted about 30 minutes, the sources said while refusing to reply to questions whether Marwah had recommended imposition of central rule.

The Speaker, who has accused the United Legislature Front government of 'failure' on all fronts, is being supported by opposition Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Peoples Party, Samata Party, Janata Party, Janata Dal (United) and the Nationalist Congress Party.

He has also refused to convene a session of the state assembly and adjourned it sine die despite a request from the chief minister.
