France wants more Indian students

France will be an attractive destination for Indian students wanting to pursue higher studies and the country is even willing to organize certain academic sessions in English, French Minister of Education Jack Lang said.

"France offers tremendous potential for students from India and other English speaking countries. However, we are aware that language still remains a barrier. So we are working out possibilities to offer different courses in English for a while," Lang told newsmen in Paris.

Lang, who had an informal get together with Indian students and researchers based in Paris, said he was convinced that French expertise in the fields of medicine, biotechnology and other advanced research fields would be of great interest to Indian students.

However, the minister admitted that there are problems regarding visa and fewer fellowships hinder Indian students coming to France.

He said there is a need to simplify visa rules and assured that the number of fellowships for foreign students would be increased in the coming years.

"For us it is very important to establish a cultural bridge with India. Though we receive Indian students every year it is not sufficient," Lang said and added that Indian researchers would very much benefit from the high-tech laboratories of France, considered as one of the best in the World.
