LS defeats Oppn motion on Ayodhya by huge margin

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

The Lok Sabha on Thursday defeated the Opposition motion on Ayodhya by a margin of more than 100 votes.

Replying to the two-day debate on the motion, which often saw acrimonious debate, Prime Minister A B Vajpayee rejected the Opposition's demand for the resignation of the three Union ministers who are chargesheeted in the demolition of the Babri masjid. "Even if they submit their resignations, I will reject them," he said to thunderous applause from the treasury benches.
