12 buried alive in mine cave-in

At least twelve people were buried alive near Rauta village in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand on Tuesday when the roof of a coal mine caved in.

Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar said in Hazaribagh on Wednesday that rescue teams of the Central Coalfields Limited were engaged in extricating the bodies. However, not a single body could be recovered till Wednesday afternoon, he added.

The SP said there were unconfirmed reports that the bodies had been taken away by the relatives and cremated. He said those killed were involved in illegal mining.
