Stonework for temple sanctum sent to Ayodhya

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad said on Thursday that 5,000 cubic feet of completed stonework to be used in the 'Garbha Griha' (sanctum sanctorum) of the proposed Ram temple had been despatched to Ayodhya in the run-up to the construction of the shrine at the disputed site.

The stone works were sent by truck from Pindwara in Rajasthan on Wednesday, eighth anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid, VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia told reporters in New Delhi.

The stones will be kept at three different places in Ayodhya, including Karsewakpuram, he said.

Togadia announced that the schedule for construction of the temple would be decided at a three-day meeting of the 'Dharma Sansad' (the apex decision-making body of the Sangh Parivar outfit comprising religious leaders) beginning January 19 during the Kumbh Mela at Allahabad.

"Thereafter, our activists will spread out to 5.75 lakh villages across the country to create awareness. We have already mobilised the requisite machinery," Togadia said.

He said that up to 60 per cent of the stonework, being done at various workshops in Rajasthan, would be completed by March 2001.

"We are prepared to build up to the first floor of the grand temple," he said.
