Militants storm CRPF camp in Anantnag

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Militants stormed the heavily guarded battalion headquarters of the Central Reserve Police Force situated in Ashajipura in Anantnag district late on Monday afternoon.

Police said two militants who came in a car forced their entry into the battalion headquarters and opened fire at the sentries with automatic weapons resulting in serious injuries to six jawans.

In the gun battle that followed, one militant was killed.

One jawan also succumbed to his injuries.

Army and paramilitary personnel had encircled the camp when reports last came in and the encounter was on.
