Sakshi Maharaj's anticipatory bail extended

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Delhi High Court Monday extended the anticiaptory bail of Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Swami Sachidanand Sakshi Maharaj in various cases including two on rape charges till September 12 with the direction that no further extenstion would be given.

Justice R S Sodhi, who had granted him anticipatory bail earlier this month, said the extension was being given to enable Sakshi submit himself before the concerned trial court in Uttar Pradesh.

Sakshi Maharaj had filed bail applications in the high court after the UP police had registered three cases, including two rape cases, against him on August 8 and August 14.

The MP alleged that "false cases" against him were being registered at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the state with a "motive" to tarnish his image.

Sakshi's counsel I U Khan told the court that his client would soon submit himself before the concerned trial court in Etah.
