E-Mail this report to a friend

Six people of a family, including a child, were buried alive in their sleep when their house in Gyalshing town in western Sikkim was swept away by fresh landslides on Sunday night, police said.

The slide occurred around midnight at Omlop village, over 110 km from the state capital Gangtok, police said. The first landslide, which hit Gyalshing last week following heavy rains, left five dead and eight others injured.

With reports of the latest deaths, the landslide toll in west Sikkim has now gone upto 11.

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling returned from Delhi on Sunday and visited the spot.
