Encounter between Hizb and army: Troops defeated by 24 runs!

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Indian Army and the Hizbul Mujahideen, foes of yesterday, battled it out again in Kashmir valley, but in an encounter of different kind. This time on a cricket field, where the latter won by 24 runs.

The friendly encounter took place in Khipora in the frontier district of Kupwara Friday between the Hizb and the army's 4-Rashtriya Rifles.

The match was a treat to the local people in this small frontier village which had otherwise seen these two battling during it out with guns.

Hizb "players" batted first and later bowled out the armymen-turned-players 24 runs short off the target.

The match was a part of confidence building measures between the two sides which have seen a lot of bloodshed in past decade, a Hizb commander quipped after the match.
