Non-bailable arrest warrants against BukhariA court in Gorakhpur has ordered issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants and initiation of proceedings for attachment of property against the Shahi Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid, Syed Abdullah Bukhari, for securing his attendance in a defamation case. Bukhari has been evading appearance before the court of the judicial magistrate despite non-bailable warrants of arrest and proceedings under section 83 of the CrPC ordered against him on several occasions since 1993. The magistrate has again ordered the Delhi police to arrest Bukhari and produce him before his court on October 21. An advocate had filed a defamation suit against Bukhari for allegedly making anti-Indian statements, as published in a newspaper on December 9, 1992. PTI
