One of the main accused in the killing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha founder President Nirmal Mahato on August 8, 1987 surrendered in a Jamshedpur court on Tuesday after absconding for 14 years.

Pappu Singh, one of the three accused, surrendered in the court of first additional district judge, S K Murari.

Police said Virendra Singh along with his brothers Pappu and Pandit Singh shot Mahato at the entrance of a Tata guest house in front of a dozen witnesses.

While Virendra was apprehended by police after a month, the other two managed to escape.

The case was handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation in 1989.

Pandit Singh is still at large, police said.
