Crash victims kin yet to be paid compensationSwapna Khanna in New Delhi Compensation is yet to be paid to the families of those killed in the Alliance Air crash in Patna on July 17. According to the Indian Airlines officials the amount to be paid is Rs 750,000 for an adult and Rs 350,000 for minors. IA's senior manager (public relations) Chander Kumar said, "The compensation will be taken care by the insurance agency. Our role is to ensure that the claimants fill in the relavant forms to claim compensation." "We are trying speed up the procedure so that there is no inconvenience to the families," he said. "In fact we released advertisements in all major dailies three days after the crash calling claimants to fill in the forms," he said. He said the process could take 45 days. "We have asked the insurance people to ensure there are no delays," he said. "It is a long procedure and requires a lot of documentation. There are also legal hurdles to be cleared," he said. The bills of survivors, who are being treated in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, will also be paid by the airline. The hospitals will be paid directly, he said. Meanwhile, Dr Rajendra Prasad, a neurosurgeon at the hospital, said the condition of all the five survivors is improving. The have been operated upon and most have been shifted from the intensive care unit, he said. Only Rajiv Rana still remains in a critical condition. Rana was operated for multiple fractures of the spine (cervical and lumbar), he said, adding that he has been placed on a ventilator. Rana's wife Subha said, "Despite assurances from the doctors I am worried. There is little that assures me," she said Meanwhile, Bopanna, who was admitted with 55 per cent burns on his limbs, back and face and spinal fractures, underwent skin grafting. Dr Sethi, who operated on Bopanna, said, "His condition is stable and he is under observation." The condition of the three members of the Rajgarhia family is stated to be stable. Dr Pramod Rajgarhia and his daughter Prachi, who were operated for spinal injuries, are in a stable condition and have been shifted to the ward.
