TN revenue minister passes away

E-Mail this report to a friend

Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister Nanjil K Manoharan died of cardiac arrest in Madras on Tuesday morning.

He was 71 and is survived by his wife, and four children.

Hospital sources said Manoharan was brought to the hospital in a 'very serious condition' and that the doctors's efforts to revive him proved in vain.

He was one of the first MPs to cast his lot with AIADMK leader M G Ramachandran when he formed the party in 1973. Manoharan was made finance minister in the MGR cabinet in 1977. However, he resigned from the AIADMK in 1980 due to differences with MGR and joined the DMK. He was made the party deputy general secretary and held the post since.

He was made revenue minister in the M Karunanidhi ministry in 1989 and in 1996.
