This is the second attack on the heavily-guarded Badami Bagh cantonment though. On November 3, three heavily-armed Fidayeen (suicide squad) militants sneaked inside the corps headquarters, killing the army PRO Major Purshottam and six others. Security was beefed up after the attack.
The blast today shook the area and the vehicle was blown apart, say locals. The vehicle was blow to pieces. Sources said that the suicide bomber was also killed in the massive explosion. No group has yet admitted responsibility for the blast.
Police sources said security was being further beefed up. Immediately after the blast army soldiers circled the area. Traffic was diverted and searches conducted. Locals had a difficulty in reaching their homes. Senior army, paramilitary and police officers visited the spot.
