Punjab and Haryana bar association suspends stir

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, in a meeting today, unanimously decided to suspend the lawyers' strike since the Delhi high court is already seized of the matter.

The Delhi high court, in a pending public interest litigation, today ordered the transfer of the officers under whose orders the police attacked demonstrating lawyers with water cannons and batons on February 24.

The division bench also ordered suspension of those officers who were directly responsible for the baton-charge.

The lawyers of the association unanimously decided to suspend the strike and resume work from April 19 to enable other lawyers to be prepared to take up their cases.

The district bar associations have welcomed the decision.

Association president Daya Chaudhary informed the house that ''because of the sacrifices and determined agitation, the implementation of the amendment made in the CPC have been stayed for a fresh look, in consultation with the members of the bar associations."
