Marxist MLA shot dead in Bihar

Gurudas Chatterjee, Marxist Coordination Committee's member in the Bihar assembly, was killed by motor-cycle borne miscreants at Deoli village in Dhanbad district on Friday evening.

Chatterjee, (50), who presented Nirsa thrice, is survived by his wife and a son.

Bihar's Director General of Police K A Jacob said steps were being taken to arrest the miscreants who shot dead Chatterjee from close range.

Senior police and administrative officials have reached the spot.

Party sources here said Chatterjee was returning home around 1515 hrs after attending some organisational work in Dhanbad when the miscreants killed him.

Chief Minister Rabri Devi, state legislative council chairman Jabir Hossain and leaders of various political parties have condemned the killing.
