Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Five Naxalites, including two women, were killed in two different encounters with the police in Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

According to the state intelligence bureau, the slain Naxalites belonged to the CPI-ML (Naveen Dalam). The incident occurred at Patha Pinapaka village near Palvancha. On a tip-off that a group of Naxalites were taking shelter in a mango grove on the village outskirts, a police party reached the spot. When the exchange of fire between the Naxalites and the police ceased, the police discovered the bodies of two women Naxalites.

Subsequently, while undertaking mopping up operations in the village, the police party came across three Naxalites hiding in a house. Another exchange of fire followed, killing the three Naxalites.
