India test-fires Dhanush, ship-launched SAM

E-Mail this report to a friend

The first developmental flight trial of Dhanush, the ship-launched version of India's surface-to-surface missile, was carried out in the Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast today.

The launch of the 150-km range Dhanush was carried out from a naval ship at 1335 hours. ''The fIight met with partial success,'' sources in the Defence Research and Development Organisation said.

Dhanush is part of the DRDO's integrated guided missile development programme and is expected to be developed as a naval version of Prithvi which has ranges of 150 km and 250 km in its two variants. ''The naval version will take some time as the platform on a ship is entirely different from that on the surface,'' DRDO sources said.
