Sharjah cops arrest 150 illegal immigrants

Police in Sharjah arrested some 150 illegal immigrants, mostly Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis, from various parts of the emirates.

Local newspapers quoted a senior police official as saying that police investigators had received information about a ''large number of Asians'' who had infiltrated the UAE and were staying in different parts of Sharjah.

He said the criminal investigation department formed several teams and conducted raids in which these illegal immigrants were arrested.

The police official said illegal entry by foreigners posed a major security threat to the country and efforts were being intensified to curb such phenomenon.

The armed forces have also been conducting sea and land operations, which resulted in the arrests of large number of illegal immigrants.
