SC drops contempt case against 'Kalchakra' editor

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Supreme Court today dropped contempt proceedings against Kalchakra editor Vineet Narain and others for making certain allegations against former chief justice J S Verma and Justice S C Sen in connection with the multi-crore hawala case.

The proceedings, arising out of a petition filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association, were dropped by a three-judge bench comprising Justices S B Majumdar, G B Pattnaik and S Rajendra Babu.

In their brief order, the judges observed, ''The impugned article appearing in Kalchakra was prima facie contemptuous. We are, however, on a higher footing and would not be affected by such writings. We are not inclined to honour the respondents by issuing notices to them. We hope that the respondents shall be discreet in their approach in future.''
