Ayodhya revision petition to be heard on April 18

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court today fixed April 18 for hearing arguments on four criminal revisions seeking to challenge the summoning order of the special judge (CBI) J P Srivastava on the Ayodhya cases.

The order was passed by Justice Jagdish Bhalla after hearing arguments of the counsel for the accused. The next date of hearing before the CBI special judge is April 25.

Srivastava had summoned all the 49 accused in the Ayodhya demolition cases through his order dated September 9, 1997 for framing of charges.

The accused include Union ministers L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh and Shiva Sena leader Bal Thackeray.

Only 33 of them had filed criminal revisions. They include Moreshwar Save, Uma Bharti, R N Srivastava and D Z Rai (former district magistrate and SP, Faizabad respectively) and Rajmata Vijay Raje Scindia.

The arguments of counsel I B Singh, appearing for the accused district magistrate and superintendent of police, on the revision petition before Justice Bhallal could not be completed today.
