Clinton to visit India in February 2000

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bill Clinton, President of the United States of America, will finally visit India in February 2000.

US Trade Representative Suzanne Esseman stated this in Washington.

Esseman, who is herself visiting India next week, said the visit would herald the beginning of a new chapter in Indo-US relations.

Clinton was earlier planning to visit India last year, but the nuclear tests in May 1998, followed by economic sanctions and a cooling of relations between New Delhi and Washington, put paid to that hope.

He later wanted to visit India this year, but the fall of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government followed by the Kargil conflict and the elections held up that proposal too.
