TMC joins hands with Cong in
Pondicherry on diesel hike

E-Mail this report to a friend

In a significant development, the Tamil Maanila Congress, a partner in the ruling DMK-led coalition, today participated in an opposition Congress-I sponsored meeting to chalk out an agitation plan against the diesel price hike.

TMC general secretary V Bhalan and youth wing leader N Namasivayam took part in the meeting.

Pondicherry Congress-I president P Shanmugham, who presided over the meeting, said at a press conference later that the TMC had participated in the meeting since the views of all secular parties on the diesel price hike were the same. ''This is a people's problem and the TMC's participation has no significance as a move to destabilise the government here,'' he added.

The meeting decided to organise a demonstration in front of the legislative assembly on October 29, the opening day of the winter session.

A massive procession would be taken out through the main thoroughfares of the town to the assembly on that day.

Representatives of the AIADMK, CPI, CPI-M, Republican Party of India and the Christian Democratic Front also took part in the meeting.
