Lalit Mansingh to be new foreign secretaryLalit Mansingh, India's high commissioner to the United Kingdom, will be the next foreign secretary, an official release said today. He replaces K Raghunath, whose term expires on November 30. The release said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had approved the appointment of Mansingh (Indian Foreign Secretary, 1963 batch) as foreign secretary with effect from December 1, 1999. Mansingh has served in various capacities in the ministry and was also secretary (West) before he was shifted to London. Raghunath was on extension for the last two years. UNI |
