A P Kamath in New York

Abraham Verghese, who kicked off the promotion for the paperback edition of his book, The Tennis Partner, in New York at the South Asian Journalists Association last week, is travelling to many other American cities to give readings and sign copies.

On November 9, the Asia Society is screening the film, My Own Country, based on his first book of the same title.

Inspired by Verghese's autobiography, the television film tells the tale of cultural identity and healing through the lives of patients suffering of AIDS up in the Smoky Mountains and the transformation of their Indian doctor.

A discussion with Mira Nair follows the screening.

Verghese's new book is searing study of addiction and bonds of friendship.
