Mohammad Kasim Lajpuria alias Mechanic Chacha, an accused in the sensational serial bomb blasts case that rocked Bombay in 1993, was arrested in Nepal yesterday, almost six-and-a-half years after the incident.

Mechanic Chacha (54) was today produced before the Special TADA court presided over by Judge P D Kode and was remanded to custody till November 11.

Earlier, after being arrested by the Nepal police, Mechanic Chacha was handed over to a Central Bureau of Investigation team. The CBI team in turn handed him over to their special task force in Mumbai.

The prosecution has alleged that Mechanic Chacha was involved in landing the deadly explosive, RDX, in Ratnagiri district just days before the blasts rocked the metropolis on March 12, 1993.

Another accused in the case Yakub Memon too was arrested from Nepal.
