3 Pakistani infiltrators killed overnight in Jammu

E-Mail this report to a friend

Eleven people, including three Pakistani infiltrators, have been killed in militancy-related incidents across the Jammu region since last evening.

A defence ministry spokesman today said security forces also smashed a militant hideout and recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition during overnight operations.

He said the army received information that the mother and sister-in-law of a hardcore militant, Abdul Wahid alias Nayeem of Harkat-ul-Ansar had been meeting him in his hideout.

Last evening, when the two women moved out of their house, a Rashtriya Rifles team led by Major M Hadkekar chased them into the Jangalwar forests, south of Thathri, where Wahid along with his two associates was hidding.

On being challenged, the militants opened fire on the troops who retaliated. In the half-an-hour encounter Wahid was killed. While escaping, the two militants lobbed grenades some of which exploded near the women, injuring them seriously. They succumbed on way to hospital.
