High court orders AIADMK MLA's release

E-Mail this report to a friend

A division bench of the Madras high court has once again suspended the Tamil Nadu assembly resolution against All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham MLA R Thamaraikkani, and ordered his release on bail.

The assembly resolution, passed on Tuesday, had sentenced Thamaraikkani to 15 days' simple imprisonment for assaulting Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S Arumugham on Monday.

The bench comprising Justices T Jayarama Chouta and S Thangaraj today granted the interim bail to Thamaraikkani against a bond of Rs 25,000 to be executed before the chief metropolitan magistrate. The bench, however, said it has to 'go deep into the matter'.

It also issued notices to the chief secretary, the assembly speaker and the assembly secretary on a habeas corpus petition filed by AIADMK MP O S Manian.
