E-Mail this report to a friend

The central ethics committee of the Indian Council of Medical Research has recommended a law banning human cloning.

The suggestion has been made in the committee's draft consultative document on ethical guidelines on biomedical research involving human subjects.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dalit Ezhilmalai told the Rajya Sabha today that the document had been sent for comment to leading scientific and non-scientific institutions, medical colleges, state health departments, faculty of law and eminent citizens.

The government will take a final view on the matter after the comments are received, he said.
