PM warns people against ISI mischief
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today alerted the people against possible subversion by the Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan following Pakistan's failure to get international support for its intrusion into Kargil.
Addressing the 'Rashtriya Raksha' (national defence) rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Patna, he said India's stand has been supported by all countries, forcing Pakistan to plead for talks.
He said the army has consolidated its position at the frontiers. It faced some problems initially, but has brought the situation under control and is pushing the infiltrators back, he said.
Vajpayee said Pakistan stood exposed everywhere and is now trying to create problems within India. So he called upon the people to remain alert against attempts to create disturbances in the country.
Citing the recent incident at New Jalpaiguri railway station in West Bengal, he said Pakistani agents were trying to create such problems, but added that the country is united and strong enough to meet any eventuality.
He said the country would never concede Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan just because it has a Muslim majority. He pointed out that India has a larger Muslim population than Pakistan, and said Indian Muslims are very patriotic and are an integral part of the country's population.
