E-Mail this report to a friend

At least five people were killed and about 60 injured when a powerful bomb exploded on a platform at the New Jalpaiguri station in Siliguri today.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (headquarters) Ramkrishna Roy said four people including a woman died on the spot and one on the way to a hospital.

Unofficial reports put the toll at nine and said the condition of 25 of the injured was critical.

Roy quoting preliminary reports said the bomb exploded around noon blowing the roof of the platform.

He said the platform was crowded as the Mahananda Link down train was about to leave.

Unofficial reports, however, said the bomb was placed on the Mahananda Express bound for Delhi.
