Solve Kargil issue through dialogue: Japan

E-Mail this report to a friend

Japan has reaffirmed its stand that militants crossing the Line of Control into the Indian side was the genesis of the fighting in Kargil.

A Japanese government release reiterated its stand taken at the G-8 foreign ministers' meeting on June 10, and urged India and Pakistan to respect the LoC.

Japan regards it important that both countries exercise restraint to avoid further escalation of fighting, the release said adding that Tokyo strongly desires to have the problem solved through dialogue between the nations.
