Indian troops move north of Tololing

Consolidating their gains, Indian troops have in the last 24 hours secured a foothold on the next enemy position on the ridgeline north of Tololing Hill where fierce fighting has been going on since June 13, army spokesman Col Bikram Singh said in New Delhi today.

Major A S Jasrotia and a jawan of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles were killed in the fighting.

Eight infiltrators were shot dead while nine were wounded.

With this, a total of 106 Indian Army personnel have been killed in the fighting so far and 242 have been wounded while eight are reported missing.

Col Bikram Singh said, "The success gained will facilitate furtherance of our operations in this sector."

Pakistani troops continued firing mortar and artillery shells from across the Line of Control, targeting various villages in the Keran, Poonch and Nowshera sectors.

Indian Air Force spokesman Group Captain D N Ganesh said air strikes continued in the Monto Dalo area and a post-attack analysis had revealed that the enemy had suffered the "most telling damage".

Attacks are being concentrated mainly on the enemy's logistics support in the Mushkoh valley, Batalik and Drass sectors. The enemy has not been able to withstand these attacks, he said, asserting that a "dent" had been made.

Col Singh said an operation is also on to clear Tiger Hill, which is the "hub and predominant position" in the region from the point of view of latitude.
