Hussein Kutchi Mandhara alias Ahmed Musa Hataddin, a Pakistani intruder and leader of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) gang that smuggled deadly weapons to the Kutch coast last week was shot dead by the Indian army personnel early this morning while he was trying to make good his exit out of the Great Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.

A report from Bhuj said he was chased by an army patrol unit following a tip-off by an intelligence source. On being asked to surrender, he opened fire on the army jawans and tried to escape. Returning the fire, the armymen critically injured him. He died while being taken to a hospital at Nakhatrana.

An identity card, issued to him by the Pakistan government and fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 16,776 were recovered from his possession, police said.

Mandhara was married to a girl from village Deshalpar and his father-in-law had given him shelter, police added.
