E-Mail this report to a friend

The five-day-old Om Parkash Chautala ministry in Haryana was expanded today with the induction of seven cabinet ministers and six ministers of state, raising the strength of the ministry to 14.

Governor Mahabir Prasad administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers at an impressive swearing-in ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.

Of the seven cabinet ministers two belonged to the Indian National Lok Dal and the rest to the Haryana Vikas Party-Democratic. Of the six ministers of state two belong to the HVP-D while the other four are independent legislators.

Chautala later said that the INLD and HVP-D will contest the coming Lok Sabha elections under the National Democratic Alliance agenda.

He said talks were on with the BJP leadership for the party to join his government.
